LARGO, Fla. (TCN) — A 37-year-old man was recently arrested in Georgia after allegedly fatally shooting his parents in Florida and later threatening to shoot others in South Carolina.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reported that on June 6, deputies responded to a home on Saunders Avenue for a welfare check after someone failed to show up for work. There, authorities discovered 53-year-old Elizabeth Kirchner and 64-year-old Steven Kirchner dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Their son, Nicholas Kirchner-Prola, had reportedly fled before deputies arrived.
Later that day, deputies with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina responded to a disturbance involving a firearm on Green View Parkway. Witnesses said Kirchner-Prola aimed a gun at multiple people and threatened to shoot them. Investigators allege he held a family member at gunpoint and forced another to go inside the house to retrieve someone, warning he’d shoot the hostage in the head if his demands weren’t met.
At one point, he allegedly stated, “I’ve already killed two people. I’ll kill some more.”
A family member inside the home reportedly came out armed, prompting Kirchner-Prola to flee in his vehicle as someone called 911.
Around 3:41 p.m., deputies in Georgia’s Taliaferro County responded to a report of a suspicious person kneeling by the highway with one hand raised. When deputies arrived, Kirchner-Prola said he had a weapon, which was safely secured. Authorities quickly learned he was wanted in both South Carolina and Florida.
Kirchner-Prola reportedly admitted multiple times to killing his parents and called it a “righteous kill.” He also told investigators he had abandoned a stolen Nissan Pathfinder along Interstate 20. The vehicle was later found by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
He was arrested and booked into the McDuffie County Jail in Georgia and is awaiting extradition to Florida, where he faces two counts of first-degree murder.
