More than 450 children in the Greater Toledo area recently received much-needed support thanks to the Junior League of Toledo, which distributed over 25,000 diapers through its As We Grow Diaper Bank project. But the organization says the need is far from met — and they’re calling on the community to help.
A Growing Need
This Article Includes
-
1 in 2 U.S. families struggles to afford enough diapers.
-
Since its launch in 2020, As We Grow has now distributed over 200,000 diapers.
-
The recent milestone was made possible with a $4,000 grant from the Toledo Rotary Foundation Club Foundation Fund, administered by the Greater Toledo Community Foundation.
More Than Just Diapers
Kellie Cole, chair of this year’s Diaper Bank project, emphasized the importance of providing basic hygiene essentials like diapers, wipes, and rash cream.
“We want to keep babies clean, dry, and healthy,” Cole said. “We need diapers of all sizes — newborn through size six — plus wipes and rash creams. Every bit helps.”
Economic Impact
According to data from the Connecticut Center for Economic Analysis, the recent donation:
-
Enabled 60 caregivers to attend work for a total of 2,500 hours.
-
Helped prevent an estimated 4,380 days of diaper rash and discomfort for children.
How You Can Help
The Junior League is also looking for:
-
Women volunteers to help with fundraising, collection drives, and diaper sorting.
-
Donations of diapers, wipes, and rash cream.
Get Involved
Whether you donate a pack of diapers or volunteer your time, the Junior League says every contribution counts.
“We want to keep giving — and we need the community’s support to do it,” Cole added.
