EAST TEXAS (KETK) — Torrential rains and ongoing flooding have caused widespread road closures across East Texas, prompting safety warnings from local authorities and emergency officials.

Road crews are working tirelessly to remove debris, clear fallen trees, and monitor water levels, but many roads remain impassable as floodwaters continue to threaten low-lying areas.

  • FM 861 (Elmwood Gardens area)

  • County Road 386 (84 East area)

  • Stills Creek area (CR 1231, 1232, 199 — Fields Chapel area)

  • FM 861 at CR 103 (Elkhart)

  • FM 1817 south of FM 2022 (Slocum area)

“Numerous roads still have water over the roadway that has not receded yet throughout the county,” said Anderson County Emergency Management Coordinator Christina Crockett.
“We urge residents to continue exercising extreme caution, especially in low-lying areas, as more rain is expected through the weekend.”

Flint

  • FM 2868 near Sprint Creek Drive
    Flooded and partially blocked by storm debris.

Wood County

The Wood County Electric Cooperative reports widespread power outages due to trees falling on saturated ground.

  • Crews are working to remove trees and restore power.

  • The utility has advised they may clear a 15-foot path on either side of primary lines and 4 feet on secondary lines.

  • A major outage occurred just east of Quitman, where a large tree fell outside the easement.

Safety Reminder:

Authorities across East Texas are urging residents to:

  • Avoid travel on closed roads or those covered in water.

  • Never drive through flooded roadways — “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

  • Report downed trees or wires to local officials.

  • Stay tuned to local alerts and updates through the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and county emergency management offices.
