INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Marion County judge has sentenced Tony Miller Jr. to 105 years in prison for a fatal 2022 shooting that killed 30-year-old William Wilson and injured Miller’s then-girlfriend.
The shooting happened in November 2022 on the far east side of Indianapolis, where Miller opened fire on a vehicle that was waiting to pick up his and his girlfriend’s daughter.
Deadly Ambush
Wilson, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, was shot in the head and died two days later at the hospital. Miller’s then-girlfriend, who was in the passenger seat, suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.
According to her testimony, the pair were simply parked, waiting to pick up their daughter, when Miller attacked.
A Child Caught in the Chaos
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears condemned Miller’s actions, especially with a child so close to the violence.
“The defendant’s decision to create a deadly situation is abhorrent, especially with his daughter in such close proximity,” Mears said in a statement.
“He not only endangered her life but exposed her to lifelong trauma. No child should have to be exposed to this kind of violence, especially at the hands of their father.”
Arrest and Evidence
Miller was arrested after license plate reader technology detected his truck near the crime scene. Investigators also used cell phone data to place him at the location of the shooting, helping build the case against him.
A two-day trial resulted in Miller’s conviction for murder and attempted murder. He later pled guilty to additional charges as a habitual offender and for a felony firearm enhancement, which added 15 years to his sentence.
Final Sentence
The court handed down a total sentence of 105 years—reflecting the seriousness of the crime, the risk to multiple lives, and Miller’s criminal history.
With this sentencing, Wilson’s family and the surviving victim may begin to find closure, while Miller faces the consequences of a violent act that tore apart multiple lives.
