CALIFORNIA – Rite Aid is closing over 50 additional stores in California, part of a new round of nationwide closures following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in May. The company announced in a court document that it plans to shutter more than 700 of its 1,240 remaining U.S. stores.
This seventh wave of closures hits California the hardest, with 56 locations listed. New York (24) and Pennsylvania (19) also face significant cuts.

Rite Aid said it’s working to ensure a smooth transition for customers, with prescription files being transferred to other chains. CVS will acquire files from 625 Rite Aid locations across 15 states and operate 64 stores in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Walgreens is also absorbing prescription records from select stores in nine states.
