SALEM, Ore. — Families with babies under one year old may soon receive added housing protection in Oregon, after the state Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 690 on Tuesday.
The bill aims to prevent evictions for families with infants who have been approved for rent assistance but are still waiting to receive the funds.
Supporters say the measure is a critical safeguard for infant health and development, as housing instability during a child’s first year can have long-lasting effects on brain development and well-being.
Senate Bill 690 now moves to the Oregon House for consideration. If approved, it would mark another step in the state’s broader efforts to address housing insecurity and protect vulnerable families.
