RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. — Authorities are investigating two alarming incidents in which wild donkeys in Riverside County were shot with arrows, prompting a coordinated effort to find the injured animals and those responsible.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station are working alongside the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Riverside County Department of Animal Services to track down both the suspects and the wounded animals.
“These troubling acts are being taken very seriously,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Deputies are actively assisting in efforts to locate the injured animals and ensure they receive prompt veterinary care.”
Officials also released a photo of one of the donkeys, which shows an arrow lodged in its body — a disturbing reminder of the cruelty involved. Authorities emphasized that harming any animal is a criminal offense under California law.
The donkeys are part of a wild herd that roams the region, and while the motive remains unclear, investigators are urging the public to come forward with any tips.
