PALESTINE, Texas – After days of relentless rain and flooding, Anderson County Judge Carey G. McKinney has declared a local state of disaster to help speed up recovery efforts following the severe weather that hit from June 10 to June 12.

The declaration activates the county’s emergency management plan, allowing officials to access additional resources and take action to address property damage caused by the storms.

“Extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect or rehabilitate property,” said Judge McKinney.

Flash Flooding Hits Palestine

During the height of the storm, Palestine Police Chief Mark Harcrow reported that the city was hit with at least three inches of rain in just one hour, overwhelming local infrastructure.

The disaster declaration is set to remain in effect for seven days, unless the Anderson County Commissioners Court votes to extend it.

Damage Survey for Homeowners

Homeowners dealing with flood damage are urged to fill out the Texas Division of Emergency Management’s damage survey using the QR code provided by the county. This information will help state officials assess the impact and coordinate assistance more effectively.

If you’re affected, reporting your damage quickly is crucial for getting support and resources during the recovery.
