PALESTINE, Texas – After days of relentless rain and flooding, Anderson County Judge Carey G. McKinney has declared a local state of disaster to help speed up recovery efforts following the severe weather that hit from June 10 to June 12.
The declaration activates the county’s emergency management plan, allowing officials to access additional resources and take action to address property damage caused by the storms.
“Extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect or rehabilitate property,” said Judge McKinney.
Flash Flooding Hits Palestine
During the height of the storm, Palestine Police Chief Mark Harcrow reported that the city was hit with at least three inches of rain in just one hour, overwhelming local infrastructure.
The disaster declaration is set to remain in effect for seven days, unless the Anderson County Commissioners Court votes to extend it.
