PORTLAND, Ore. – A new study by WalletHub ranks Portland as one of the top cities in the U.S. to raise a family in 2025, placing it at No. 22 out of 180 cities evaluated nationwide.

WalletHub’s analysis scored each city based on five key categories: Family Fun, Health and Safety, Education and Child Care, Affordability, and Socioeconomics.
Portland earned a composite score of 61, with a particularly strong performance in Education and Child Care, where it ranked 7th overall. However, the city’s Health and Safety ranking came in lower at 116th, pulling down its overall score.
Top-Rated School Districts
Niche, an educational review platform, highlighted the best school districts in the Portland area for 2025. The top three include: Lake Oswego School District, Riverdale School District, and Camas School District.
Other Oregon Cities in the Rankings
Salem also appeared on WalletHub’s list but much further down, coming in at No. 122 with a total score of 48.17.
Despite its challenges, Portland continues to attract families thanks to its educational opportunities, vibrant community amenities, and quality childcare options.
