SACRAMENTO, Calif. — More than 90 people were arrested and $153,000 in stolen merchandise recovered during a weeklong California Highway Patrol (CHP) operation targeting organized retail theft.

The operation, part of the National Organized Retail Crime Blitz, ran from May 26 to May 30 and included coordination with over 100 law enforcement agencies and major retailers nationwide. High-visibility efforts were carried out at key retail hubs across California to stop large-scale theft.

“Retail theft doesn’t stop at state lines—and neither do we,” said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee. “If you come to California to steal, we will be here to stop you.”

Key Takeaways:

  • 90+ arrests statewide

  • $153,000 worth of stolen merchandise recovered

  • Multiple suspects tied to organized crime rings identified

  • Operations utilized technology and data-driven strategies

The crackdown is part of California’s broader investment in public safety, which has totaled $1.1 billion since 2019. The CHP’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force, formed in 2019, has led more than 3,800 investigations, resulting in over 4,400 arrests and the recovery of $58+ million in stolen goods.

Officials say the results show the power of public-private partnerships in deterring crime and protecting both businesses and retail workers.

The CHP emphasized its ongoing commitment to fighting retail crime through continued collaboration with state, local, and national partners.
