Ronnie Winter, lead singer of the alternative rock band The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, has made it clear that fans who support former President Donald Trump aren’t welcome at the band’s shows.
In an Instagram video shared Saturday—the same day as Trump’s military parade in Washington, D.C.—Winter directly addressed Christians aligned with the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.

“Shame on you,” Winter tells MAGA-supporting Christians

“Hi, I’m Ronnie Winter. I sing for the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and I actually follow what Jesus says. If you’re a Christian and you’re watching this and you voted for Donald Trump, shame on you. You are not allowed to come to my shows. I don’t want you there. Don’t come to my shows,” he said. “It’s awesome that you love ‘Face Down’ — it’s not for you. It’s not your song, OK? It is not your song.”
Winter doubled down on his stance, saying Trump voters are banned for good.
“If you voted for Donald Trump, do not come to my shows — forever, not just like these four years,” he added. “Don’t come to my shows because you’re going to hear a lot of woke propaganda, and you’re going to hear the actual words of Jesus, and you’re going to see a lot of acceptance from all areas of life and races, and you’re just going to see a lot of harmony. OK? That’s not what you’re about, OK? Don’t come. Refunds are available. Forever, don’t come. Goodbye.”

Concert still scheduled at NYS Fair

Winter’s comments come just before the band’s appearance at the New York State Fair. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is set to perform at Chevy Court on Monday, Aug. 25, at 6 p.m. Entry to the concert is included with Fair admission.
Despite Winter’s statement, Fair officials emphasized inclusivity.
“Everyone is welcome at the Great New York State Fair,” officials said. “Our team works to curate a lineup of musical performers from different genres and styles to make sure fairgoers have a fun and engaging time. The safety of fairgoers is our top priority, and performers agree to abide by our expectations and conduct standards while at the Fair.”

Band’s legacy and message

Known for their 2006 platinum debut Don’t You Fake It, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus rose to fame with tracks like “Face Down,” “False Pretense,” and “Your Guardian Angel.” Over the past two decades, they’ve released five albums, played Warped Tour multiple times, and had songs featured in films and shows such as Never Back Down, The Hills, 90210, and Madden NFL 07.
Winter, who previously spoke out about being “woke” in 2020, stood by his progressive beliefs in the video.
“Look, man, the thing about being woke is: you’re awake, and once you’re awake, you can never go to sleep,” he said. “And not only has nothing changed but everything they said was going to happen, the woke people, has happened. You have done nothing but prove them right.”

Advocacy for equality

According to Variety, Winter has consistently used his platform to speak out against racism and homophobia.
“We have the recognition by some people — some, not a lot — in the Christian community that the LGBTQ community has been treated unfairly from the beginning. I love it,” he told Alternative Press in 2020. “I don’t care what anybody thinks about me.
The only person I want to look up to me is my son. And when he grows up, I want him to know that [hatred] is not what Jesus said. Not even in the realm of what he said… Over the years, things have been manipulated. Fear, racism and bigotry and all kinds of ‘isms,’ which are meant to divide.
They want to divide everybody. I want to unite everybody because we can actually do that. So when you see these movements, that unity, that unity is God. He wanted us all to come together. That was his message.”
