RUSTON, La. - College football is a year-round sport with the recruiting trail always in motion and while it's generally played in the fall, spring can be just as important.

The Louisiana Tech football team hit the field for the first day of spring practices Friday with several new faces joining the team on the sidelines.

Defensive coordinator Bob Diaco is taking over the reigns for the LA Tech defense along with several new coaches on the offensive side of the ball.

"Energy. A lot of energy, a lot of excitement, a lot of enthusiasm," head coach Skip Holtz described. "Love the way they ran around today. We're out here in shorts and t-shirts kind of running around. We've got an awful lot to learn. We've got an awful lot to get done, but I really like the passion and the energy that they played with today."

Redshirt senior quarterback J'Mar Smith said, "Well if you start off the right way you're going to finish strong. I was taught that when I was a little kid. You start fast, you finish strong so as a team we come out here with high energy on both sides of the ball so we can compete, we can make each other better.

"Iron sharpens iron, so we just come out here, bring the energy, do our assignments and make each other better every day."
